Things to Do in Cootamundra, NSW

The rural town of Cootamundra is situated on the western slopes of New South Wales, about 350 kilometres southwest of Sydney. In July and August visitors will enjoy seeing the brilliant Cootamundra wattle (Acacia baileyana) in full bloom.

Cootamundra has a long history from the time of the Wiradjuri people, deriving its name from their word for turtle, 'guudhamang.' Graziers came and settled in the area in 1830s.

The Cootamundra Heritage Centre was established as a Centenary of Federation Project, and showcases Cootamundra's cultural, educational, agricultural, and transport history.

Don Bradman Cricketer born in Cootamundra,NSWSir Donald Bradman - come and visit the birthplace of one of Australia's finest sportsmen. The lovingly restored cottage contains memorabilia of Sir Donald Bradman and our entire cricketing history. Sir Donald Bradman was born at 89 Adams Street, on 27 August 1908. The Bradman family moved to Bowral when Donald was 3 years old.

The Captain's Walk features 14 bronze sculptures of Australian Test Cricket Captains. A life Size statue of Sir Donald Bradman takes pride of place in the park. When completed, the walk will include all 41 Australian Test Captains.

Try the award winning Yandilla Mustard Seed Oil. Visitors can take a tours through the factory and see how locally grown mustard is transformed into cooking oils, preserves and a whole range of other things. Morning and afternoon teas are available.

Take a short walk through the Migurra reserve or visit the Pioneer Park Nature Reserve to enjoy the bird life, iron bark and greybox woodland community.

It is an easy drive from Cootamundra to surrounding towns of Young, Junee, Temora and Gundagai.
